Hi, my name is Micha!

I’m a mom, mental performance coach and athlete.

I live in Long Beach, California with my Firefighter husband, two kids and dog, Billie.

Before I became a mom I was a professional swimmer, training for the 2008 (and briefly 2012) Olympics in open water swimming. I traveled the world competing in open water and lifesaving competitions and loved every second of it. As a collegiate athlete I struggled with performance anxiety and this nagging feeling that I was an imposter on my team, everyone belonged..but me. I knew I was getting in my own way, but I didn’t know what to do about it.

When I started competing professionally I knew that I needed to work on the mental side just as much as the physical. I devoured all the books on sports psychology, worked with a mental skills coach and started to understand the power of the mind, and the work (hard work!) that goes into making it strong. Because of that hard work, I started to see improvements in my performance as an athlete.

My professional career was incredibly rewarding, but it wasn’t without its challenges and heartbreak. When I retired from swimming, the skills I had worked so hard on building didn’t translate into my daily life. Like many athletes, I struggled with the transition. Who am I, if I’m no longer an athlete?

This uncertainty led me down a path of exploration. I got my Pilates certification (nope, don’t like teaching that!), two yoga certifications (not that either) and dabbled in commercial acting and modeling (fun, but not my calling). It was during my second yoga certification that I was introduced to meditation. It was an “aha!” moment for me. As a mother, I loved how just a couple minutes of silence by myself set me up for the day. It felt like the missing piece…a piece I desperately wished I had when I was competing.

I continued down that path of exploration and completed my M.S. in Sport Psychology, a meditation teacher certification and continue to consume all the books on sport psychology, mindfulness and mental performance.

Today, I work with athletes, teams and the occasional corporate executives. Helping them build a strong and resilient mind.

I love being an athlete, reading, the ocean, traveling, chips and salsa…but most of all my family.
